Religion or Relationship

If you ask a Christian about their religious beliefs one of the most common answers you will get back is a quick quip about how Christianity is a relationship not a religion. That’s quite a true statement but if you ask them what it means the answer will be much more varied. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that most believers never move past the level of an infant in their relationship with God because they have never been taught how to pursue something deeper. Many Christians are simply content with going to church once a week and doing their best to live a good Christian lifestyle. They will get to heaven but they will miss out on a lot more fun on earth if the top end of their pursuit is nothing more than a weekly service. There is so much more of God that we haven’t discovered because we are not taking the time to passionately pursue him in a way that draws greater levels his attention and affection to us. I tend to think that Abraham was probably on a pursuit before God called him to move to a new location and father a nation. I tend to think that Noah had a different relationship with God if he was the one chosen to build the ark. You see, the ones who passionately pursue God get to play a much bigger role in his plan on earth instead of just standing by and watching what happens.

So the challenge is this; start pursuing him with a greater level of passion. Start each day with the intentionality of seeking his presence and spending time with him. Make an effort to make the relationship more than just ankle deep. God has so much more for you but you have to want it and you have to go after it!

No impossibility

Think about this for a minute.  When you became a Christian, God placed His Spirit within you.  You literally walk around every day with the Spirit of God inside of you.  What does that mean?  In a nutshell, it means that there should be no impossibility for you.  Jesus never encountered anything He couldn’t solve. Sickness, death, demons, walking on water, multiplying food, and a lot of other miracles were commonplace with Him because he knew the power and authority that was inside of Him.  Jesus said in Matthew 28:18 that “all authority” had been given to Him.  Flip over a few pages to John 20:21 and you’ll see Him saying “as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”  How did the Father send Him? With all authority! We can heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, and perform other miracles because we have been sent with all authority. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us (Rom. 8:11) and that give us the ability to do what Jesus did, and even greater things (John 14:12).  There is no impossibility with God and when we live from the perspective of knowing who we are we suddenly realize that we have the opportunity to start making the world we live in look like heaven.

New Structure

During this past month, I have been having an ongoing conversation with the Lord about what is happening in this season, about what he is doing behind the scenes, and about the change that he is going to bring about within the body of Christ. A few days ago, the Lord took me in a dream, to an old cathedral in Europe and began to show me that there is something missing within the structure of the body of Christ—something that has been missing for a long time, and that he is about to fill that gap. Within the dream, I saw an old stone wall that had been split open and the gap between the two pieces was filled with a new material that could provide greater structure. I was able to move back and forth through time to see the before and after of this change and was amazed that the structure did not collapse during the process.

The following morning the Lord told me that he is adding a missing element into the belief system of the body. This is not about individual congregations or denominations. This is about a change to the entire body of Christ. Something new is coming, something we have been missing, something that we need in this season that will give the Kingdom of God a greater influence in the earth. Our job in this is to stay focused on what our King is doing, to shift our perspectives so that they line up with what he is releasing, and to be willing to make a change anywhere in our lives, ministries, etc. so that we are in perfect sync with him. I am always excited to see the Lord do something new, and even more excited by the idea that he is restoring something that was lost hundreds of years ago. This journey is never boring. Stay focused on him and watch the amazing things he starts to do through you!
