Shhh, listen

The Lord began to speak to me today about the importance of spending more time just listening to him. It’s pretty easy for any of us to rattle off a stack of requests, or fill our prayer time with a lot of our own words without leaving room for God to provide us with his perspective on our requests, or anything else. But, if we would all just take the time to be quiet and listen to what he has to say, we would receive so much more from the time we set aside to spend with our King. What can be better than listening to what God has to say? I heard a man tell a story once about how Jesus came to visit him, and offered him the opportunity to ask Jesus some questions. But in that moment, the man realized that nothing he could ask or say was even close to as important as what Jesus had to say. So he opted to be quiet and listen. What would happen if we sat and listed for an hour, or longer? What would God speak to us if we put ourselves in a position to simply listen. I’m willing to bet that he would provide us with a lot of the answers we would have asked about, or give us the direction we need to fulfill the things we are pursuing. Matthew 6:8 tells us that our Father already knows what we have need of, so we don’t have a need to spend an inordinate amount of time on our requests. On the other hand, we know very little about God, and could learn so much more if we would just spend more time listening. Let’s all give it a try and see what happens.
